# Supported languages

Choose website languages and enter translated content while keeping your own operator language separate.

*Release 3.3 · admin, operator*

**Settings › General Settings › Supported Languages** · **Settings › General Settings › Regional Settings** · **Settings › Account › My Account › Primary Language**

## What it is

**Supported Languages** maintains the languages associated with your website and their fallback choices. Multilingual editors let you enter translated names and text. Your own **Primary Language** controls the operator interface separately.

## Who uses it and why

Administrators ask Powerfront to configure website languages. They maintain translated content through their permitted content editors. Operators choose the language they work in and use the translated material configured for their website.

## Where to find it

Powerfront manages the supported-language list in **Settings › General Settings › Supported Languages** and changes the website's default **Language** in **Settings › General Settings › Regional Settings**. The **Settings** role with **Regional Settings** permission grants access to the regional screen, but Powerfront changes its **Language** field for you.

For your own interface, open **Settings › Account › My Account › Primary Language**. Translatable fields appear in language tabs within editors such as **Departments**, **Saved Responses** and **Content Library**.

## How it works

1. Powerfront adds an entry in **Supported Languages** for you.
2. Powerfront chooses **Language** and **Fallback Language**, then saves it.
3. Content authors enter text in the language tabs offered by the relevant editor.
4. Operators choose and save their own **Primary Language** independently.

Adding a supported language does not write translations for your custom content. Built-in interface translations and the text you author are separate. When a built-in translation is unavailable, some interface labels remain in their original language.

## Configure it

Ask Powerfront to set the website's default and additional languages. Powerfront adds supported languages once each. The fallback selector initially uses the website language, or English when unset. A language cannot be its own fallback.

Open each multilingual content editor and complete the relevant language tabs. Check the resulting visitor-facing content in each intended language. Save **Primary Language** in **My Account** when changing your own interface language.

## Limits and good to know

- Changing the operator interface language does not translate your authored responses or product descriptions.
- Missing-text fallback depends on the feature. Some content uses English or another available value.
- A deliberately empty translation can behave differently from a missing translation.
- Live message translation is configured separately from interface and content languages.
- **Settings › AI › Additional Languages** is a separate AI setting, not the website's supported-language list.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Why is my interface translated but my saved response is not?

Your **Primary Language** changes interface labels. Enter the response translation in its own language tab.

### Why can I not open Supported Languages?

Powerfront manages this screen. Ask Powerfront to update the supported-language list for you.

### Why will a language entry not save?

Ask Powerfront to check that a language is selected, that it is not already listed, and that a different **Fallback Language** is chosen.

### Does this enable live conversation translation?

No. Conversation translation is a separate feature with its own settings and controls.
