# AI accounts and shared defaults

AI accounts hold the model connection and shared defaults used by your AI features.

*Release 3.3 · admin, developer*

**Settings › AI › Accounts** · **Settings › AI › Features**

## What it is

An AI account connects your AI features to a model service or an external agent service. It also holds shared rules and execution defaults. Several features can use the same account.

## Who uses it and why

Operators with the **Settings** role and **AI** access, or the **Developer** role, choose which prepared account an AI feature uses. Developers agree the model service, credentials and integration needs with Powerfront. Powerfront creates and changes the account for you.

## Where to find it

Powerfront manages **Settings › AI › Accounts**. You select an account for a feature in **Settings › AI › Features**, using the **Settings** role with **AI** access or the **Developer** role.

## How it works

1. Powerfront creates an account for your website and selects its **Harness**.
2. An **AiFlow** account uses a configured **Model** and the credentials for that model's provider. **Legacy** retains the older execution option. External harnesses manage their own model selection.
3. You select the account in each AI feature that should use it.
4. Those features share the account's applicable rules, connections and defaults. A feature may override options that it exposes separately.

The **API Key** is displayed as a masked hint when an existing account is read. Saving the unchanged hint preserves the saved key. This behaviour does not establish how every other credential is displayed or stored.

## Configure it

Ask Powerfront to create or update the account, model connection and credentials. Specify which features should share the account, since an account change can affect several features.

For conversation context, **Recent messages kept verbatim** defaults to 10 and accepts 0 to 100. Zero retains the full conversation. **Default Context Compiler** starts with **Simple Context (Legacy)**; **Adaptive Context** is another available choice.

Powerfront can select optional **Guardrails** and **Privacy** connections and set shared **AI Macro Fields**, **Conversation Suggestion Rules** and **Conversation Summary Rules**. No external privacy service is selected merely by creating an account.

For **Adaptive Context**, Powerfront can change the token budgets in **Advanced context settings**. Blank token budgets derive from the model and effective limit. **Maximum run time (seconds)** defaults to 1,800, and **Maximum wake delay (seconds)** defaults to 300. **Enable Continue Work** starts off.

### Settings

| Setting | Where | Applies to | Default | Who can change it | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Max Function Count | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | 3 | Powerfront, on request | Sets the default function-round or iteration allowance for executions using this account. |
| Max Function Seconds | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | 30 seconds | Powerfront, on request | Sets the default time allowance for function work; managed context can use a separate run-time limit. |
| Recent messages kept verbatim | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | 10 | Powerfront, on request | Keeps this many recent conversation messages unchanged when older context is reduced; zero retains the full conversation. |
| Default Context Compiler | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Simple Context (Legacy) | Powerfront, on request | Selects how agentic features manage conversation context when they use the account default. |
| Enable Continue Work | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | Off | Powerfront, on request | Allows managed agent runs to send interim updates and continue working when the feature uses this account option. |
| Maximum input tokens | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | Not set | Powerfront, on request | Overrides the adaptive input budget; when blank, the budget is derived from the selected model. |
| Start compaction at | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | 60% of the effective token limit | Powerfront, on request | Starts background reduction of older context before the hard input limit is reached. |
| Soft reduction limit | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | 80% of the effective token limit | Powerfront, on request | Starts immediate context reduction while background compaction is not ready. |
| Post-compaction target | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | 45% of the effective token limit | Powerfront, on request | Sets the target size of context after older content is compacted. |
| Maximum run time (seconds) | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | 1800 seconds | Powerfront, on request | Limits the total managed run duration; individual providers and tools may have shorter limits. |
| Maximum wake delay (seconds) | Settings › AI › Accounts › Advanced context settings | website | 300 seconds | Powerfront, on request | Bounds the delay requested by continued work; new visitor input can wake the run sooner. |
| Debug | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Off | Powerfront, on request | Enables additional AI diagnostics. |
| Harness | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | AiFlow for new accounts | Powerfront, on request | Selects the service that runs the AI feature. Older accounts without a saved choice use AiFlow when a provider is configured, otherwise Legacy. |
| API Endpoint | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Not set | Powerfront, on request | Overrides the service address where supported; leaving it unset uses the provider's built-in address. |
| Guardrails | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | None | Powerfront, on request | Selects an optional guardrail connection; None applies no external guardrail connection from this account. |
| Privacy | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | None | Powerfront, on request | Selects an optional privacy connection; None applies no external privacy connection from this account. |
| AI Macro Fields | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Not set | Powerfront, on request | Defines shared Key and Value pairs for AI prompts; no account-specific pairs are supplied when blank. |
| Conversation Suggestion Rules | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Not set | Powerfront, on request | Supplies shared guidance for conversation suggestions, with one rule per line; blank adds no account-specific rules. |
| Conversation Summary Rules | Settings › AI › Accounts | website | Not set | Powerfront, on request | Supplies shared guidance for conversation summaries, with one rule per line; blank adds no account-specific rules. |

### Fields

| Field | Where | Required | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Settings › AI › Accounts | Yes | Names the account so it can be selected in AI features. |
| Model | Settings › AI › Accounts | No | Selects a website model for AiFlow or Legacy; an external harness manages its own model. |
| API Key | Settings › AI › Accounts | No | Supplies the credential for the selected model service; no credential is supplied by default. |

### Permissions

| Permission | Lets you |
|---|---|
| AI | With the Settings role, allows access to client-managed AI configuration, including selecting an account in Features; it does not grant account administration. |

## Limits and good to know

- An account belongs to one website. Editing it does not move it to another website.
- **AiFlow** needs a configured model. External harnesses have their own connection requirements.
- The **Max Function Count** control offers 1 to 10; **Max Function Seconds** offers 1 to 60 seconds. Managed agent runs can have separate limits.
- A positive account token limit cannot exceed the selected model's configured context limit.
- **Debug** is off by default. Ask Powerfront to enable diagnostics when investigating a problem.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Why can I select an account but not edit it?

Account administration is Powerfront-managed. Use the **Developer** role, or the **Settings** role with **AI** access, to configure features that use the account.

### Why did several features change together?

They may share the same account. Ask Powerfront to check the account's model, rules and connections.

### Must a masked API Key be entered again?

No. Saving its unchanged masked hint preserves the saved key. Ask Powerfront to replace it when rotating credentials.

### Why will an AiFlow account not save?

It needs a configured **Model**. Invalid context options or a token limit above that model's configured limit can also prevent saving.
