# Purchase currencies and conversion

Keep the original purchase currency while recording commercial values in your website currency for comparison and reporting.

*Release 3.3 · admin, operator, supervisor, visitor*

**Settings › General Settings › Regional Settings**

## What it is

INSIDE keeps the original amounts and currency supplied with tracked purchases and also records values converted to your website currency. This lets you compare sales recorded in different currencies. The currency symbol and number format are separate from the currency code used for conversion.

## Who uses it and why

- Administrators ask Powerfront to set the website currency and display format.
- Operators check prices and choose the requested currency when using a payment form.
- Supervisors compare sales values in reporting and inspect original amounts when needed.
- Visitors see the prices and currencies supplied through product cards, order cards and payment forms.

## Where to find it

Currency settings appear under **Settings › General Settings › Regional Settings**, available to the **Settings** role, subject to **Settings Permissions**. Powerfront manages the currency controls and can change them for you.

Money also appears in **Purchases**, commerce cards, payment forms and sales reports. Each view uses the money available to that feature.

## How it works

1. Your website supplies an amount and its currency when tracking a basket or purchase.
2. INSIDE retains that original money.
3. When both currencies have exchange rates, INSIDE converts the value to the website currency. The conversion calculation rounds to four decimal places before later storage or display rounding.
4. Reports and supporting purchase views use the recorded values. Where original-currency information is available, you can use it to understand a difference from the merchant's amount.

Payment requests similarly retain the original requested amount and currency as well as the website-currency amount. Commerce cards use provider-supplied money; choosing a website display symbol does not convert the merchant's catalogue prices.

## Configure it

Ask Powerfront to set **Currency Code** to the currency you want INSIDE to use for tracked values. Specify the desired **Currency** preset or the custom **Symbol**, **Position**, **Decimal Separator** and **Thousands Separator**.

Supply an explicit currency with tracked money. A symbol such as $ does not distinguish between currencies that share it.

## Limits and good to know

- If the source currency or website currency is missing, conversion leaves the amount unchanged.
- Missing exchange rates also leave the amount unchanged. A value labelled with the website currency therefore needs investigation if it appears unconverted.
- Stored values and displayed values can have different precision. Do not expect every screen to show four decimal places.
- The original purchase currency and the website display format serve different purposes. Changing a symbol alone does not change the exchange-rate calculation.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Why does a sales report differ from the merchant's order amount?

Check whether the report shows website currency and the merchant shows original currency. Also compare rounding and the same order lines.

### Why has an amount stayed the same after conversion?

The currencies may match, a currency code may be missing, or an exchange rate may be unavailable. Ask Powerfront to check the currency setup and rate availability.

### Can I change the website currency myself?

Powerfront manages the currency controls. Ask Powerfront to change the code and format you need.

### Does the website currency change prices in my store?

This feature converts tracked values within INSIDE. Commerce cards continue to use the money supplied by the provider.
