# Automatic logout after inactivity

Respond to inactivity warnings and become unavailable before ending your console session.

*Release 3.3 · admin, operator*

**Settings › Account › My Account** · **Settings › Account › Operators**

## What it is

When automatic inactivity logout is enabled, INSIDE warns you before ending an inactive desktop session. The warning gives you 60 seconds to confirm you are still there. **Logout** also checks your availability before you leave deliberately.

## Who uses it and why

- Operators respond to warnings and close their shift without remaining available for new work.
- Operators with the **Settings** role can edit their own interval when website security policy restricts ordinary operator changes. Powerfront manages website security policy.

## Where to find it

Open **Settings › Account › My Account › Auto Logout** for your interval, where editing is allowed. The final **Auto Logout** is an option within **My Account**.

Use **Logout** in the desktop toolbar to end your session.

## How it works

When the desktop inactivity timer is enabled, console activity resets it. After the configured interval, **Are you still there?** displays a 60-second countdown. Choose **Yes I'm here** to continue.

If you do not respond, INSIDE requests that you become unavailable with the reason **Idle** and closes your voice connection. Under automatic logout policy, it also ends your session.

For a planned exit:

1. Stop taking new work and finish or hand over your conversations.
2. Check that **Status** is **Unavailable**.
3. Choose **Logout** and confirm **Logout** in the confirmation window.

INSIDE blocks this logout flow while you are available, **Limited** or **Winding Down**, and asks you to become unavailable first.

## Configure it

Where editing is allowed, open **Auto Logout**, select an interval and choose **Save**. The options are **10 minutes**, **30 minutes**, **1 hour** through **8 hours**, and **none**.

When website security policy restricts interval editing, ordinary operators cannot change it. The **Settings** role can edit its own duration. Ask Powerfront to change the website's automatic logout policy.

The automatic logout sound and desktop notification preferences can provide additional warning. Browser permission is needed for desktop notifications.

## Limits and good to know

- The default interval is ten minutes when no operator override applies. It does not mean automatic logout is enabled on every website.
- These timer instructions describe the desktop console. Mobile has separate session behaviour.
- A browser can warn when you close an available console, but embedded consoles and browser restrictions can affect that warning. Use **Logout** to leave deliberately.
- An inactivity warning is suppressed while a live-show popup is present.
- Automatic logout is not a substitute for finishing or handing over work before leaving.

## Depends on and works with

### This feature uses

- **Configured in** [Logout and remembered computers](SEC-004.md): Website session policy determines automatic logout behaviour.
- **Configured in** [Operator settings](ADM-010.md): Operator preferences supply the inactivity interval.
- **Works better with** [Operator notifications and alerts](CON-018.md): Desktop notifications can draw attention to an inactivity warning.
- **Works better with** [Operator notification sounds](CON-020.md): The automatic logout sound can accompany the warning.
- **Related** [Operator availability status](CON-002.md): The planned Logout action requires Unavailable status, while inactivity logout changes your status automatically.
- **Related** [Wind Down for operators](CON-003.md): Wind down and finish remaining work before using the planned Logout action.

### Used by

- **Configures** [Logout and remembered computers](SEC-004.md): Inactivity prompts and exit behaviour affect when an operator leaves the console.
- **Enhances** [Operator notification sounds](CON-020.md): Automatic logout warnings can play their configured sound.
- **Related** [Wind Down for operators](CON-003.md): Become Unavailable after winding down before using Logout.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Why can I not change Auto Logout?

Website security policy can restrict ordinary operator edits. The **Settings** role allows you to edit your own duration under that policy. Ask Powerfront to change the website's automatic logout policy.

### Why did I lose my session after the warning?

The 60-second countdown expired without a response and automatic logout was enabled. Sign in again and check your work and availability.

### Why does Logout refuse to continue?

Your status is still available, **Limited** or **Winding Down**. Finish or hand over active work and become **Unavailable**, then try again.

### Why did I not hear a warning?

Check the automatic logout sound preference and device audio. Desktop notifications also depend on your preference and browser permission.
