# Floor rendering and animation performance

Adjust floor rendering and animation preferences to suit your computer.

*Release 3.3 · operator*

**Settings › Account › My Account** · **Settings › General Settings › Admin**

## What it is

**Render Mode** and **Limit FPS** control how the console draws its floor and animations. You can reduce animation work on a slower computer or try hardware rendering. These options change presentation while the live connection continues to supply work updates.

## Who uses it and why

Operators adjust these preferences when floor animation is slow, especially on shared or virtual desktops.

## Where to find it

With the **Settings** role, open **Settings › Account › My Account**, then **More Settings**, for **Render Mode**, **Limit FPS** and **Show 3D Avatars**.

**Stop rendering during chat** is in the Powerfront-managed **Settings › General Settings › Admin** screen. Powerfront can change this for you.

## How it works

**Render Mode** offers **Default**, **Software** and **Hardware WebGL (BETA)**. Hardware rendering can improve performance on some computers; it depends on the device and browser.

**Limit FPS** offers **Do not limit FPS**, **Low**, **Medium** and **High**. In the desktop floor, the named levels set drawing limits of 1, 10 and 30 frames per second respectively. The actual rate can be lower. **Do not limit FPS** removes your explicit selection and leaves the floor's normal limits in place.

**Low** also prevents the operator's 3D avatar display. **Show 3D Avatars** only applies when the website is configured to provide them.

INSIDE also reduces drawing work when the browser tab is hidden or panels obscure the floor. In dark mode, it can turn off background blur for the browser session when that effect is too slow.

## Configure it

Open **More Settings**, change one preference and choose **Save**. Compare the result on your computer before changing another option.

For persistent lag while chatting in a virtual desktop, ask Powerfront to change **Stop rendering during chat** for your website. It reduces drawing of the obscured floor.

### Settings

| Setting | Where | Applies to | Default | Who can change it | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Render Mode | Settings › Account › My Account › More Settings | operator | Default, using software rendering | Developer role, Co-Browse role, Manager role, Settings role, Chat role, Video Chat role, Live Shows role, Stats role, Monitor role, Top Stats role, Audit role, Bot Trainer role, Reports role, Reports Dashboard role, Store App role, Video Feed role | Chooses the default, software or hardware rendering option for the console. |
| Limit FPS | Settings › Account › My Account › More Settings | operator | Not set: the desktop floor uses 30 FPS and the mobile floor uses 1 FPS | Developer role, Co-Browse role, Manager role, Settings role, Chat role, Video Chat role, Live Shows role, Stats role, Monitor role, Top Stats role, Audit role, Bot Trainer role, Reports role, Reports Dashboard role, Store App role, Video Feed role | Applies a Low, Medium or High animation limit; Low also prevents operator 3D avatar rendering. |
| Show 3D Avatars | Settings › Account › My Account › More Settings | operator | On | Developer role, Co-Browse role, Manager role, Settings role, Chat role, Video Chat role, Live Shows role, Stats role, Monitor role, Top Stats role, Audit role, Bot Trainer role, Reports role, Reports Dashboard role, Store App role, Video Feed role | Allows configured 3D avatars in the operator chat pane, subject to website settings and performance limits. |
| Stop rendering during chat | Settings › General Settings › Admin | website | Off | Powerfront, on request | Stops drawing the floor behind supported open panels to reduce display work during chat. |

### Permissions

## Limits and good to know

- The setting limits animation drawing; it does not increase your permitted conversation capacity.
- An FPS limit is not a guaranteed frame rate.
- Hardware rendering is labelled **BETA** and may perform differently across computers.
- Mobile uses separate rendering controls and lower animation rates. These desktop values do not describe every mobile screen.
- Turning off decorative effects does not make an interrupted live connection current. Check connection messages separately.

## Depends on and works with

### This feature uses

- **Configured in** [Operator settings](ADM-010.md): Operator preferences store rendering and animation choices.
- **Configured in** Admin settings and feature switches (managed by Powerfront): Powerfront-managed website controls can stop rendering behind chat panels.
- **Works better with** [Dark mode for the console](CON-027.md): Dark-mode decoration can be reduced automatically when display performance is low.
- **Related** [Live visitor and operator floor](CON-006.md): Use the floor article to distinguish drawing performance from live visitor updates.
- **Related** [My Look operator avatar choices](CON-011.md): Low animation performance prevents the 3D preview in My Look.
- **Related** [Avatar animation and reaction settings](CON-012.md): Low animation performance prevents operator 3D avatar reactions from being displayed.

### Used by

- **Configures** [Live visitor and operator floor](CON-006.md): Rendering preferences affect animation and responsiveness.
- **Configures** [Floor avatar indicators](CON-010.md): Rendering preferences affect the avatar presentation and whether operator 3D scenes are shown.
- **Configures** [My Look operator avatar choices](CON-011.md): Performance settings can prevent 3D previews and chat avatars.
- **Configures** [Avatar animation and reaction settings](CON-012.md): Low performance mode and operator avatar preferences can prevent display.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Which setting should I try if animation is slow?

Try a lower **Limit FPS** value and compare responsiveness. You can also try **Hardware WebGL (BETA)** if your device supports it.

### Why did 3D avatars disappear after selecting Low?

**Low** prevents operator 3D avatars to reduce animation work. Choose another limit and check **Show 3D Avatars** if you need them.

### Why is the floor less animated behind an open panel?

The console can reduce or stop drawing the obscured floor. This is a display optimisation.

### Why did background blur disappear in dark mode?

INSIDE can disable that effect for the browser session when its performance check finds it too slow.
