# Visitor popup event setup

Show targeted messages, images, surveys or linked offers to website visitors when an event matches.

*Release 3.3 · admin, developer, visitor*

**Settings › Events › Visitor Events** · **Settings › Events › Surveys**

## What it is

**Visitor Popup** displays an offer or message when a website visitor meets an event's rules. You can show text, an image, an embedded page or a notification, and choose what happens when the visitor clicks. Related event types include **Survey**, **Join the Call** and **Click to Call**.

## Who uses it and why

- Administrators with the **Settings** or **Manager** role create targeted offers and choose their presentation and destination.
- Developers help with custom destinations, website containers and embedded content.
- Visitors read the offer and can follow its link, open chat or begin the selected task.

## Where to find it

Open **Settings › Events › Visitor Events**, then choose **Visitor Popup** as the event **Type**. The **Settings** or **Manager** role grants access to visitor events and surveys, subject to delegated permissions. Create survey content in **Settings › Events › Surveys**, then select it in a **Survey** event.

## How it works

INSIDE checks the event's trigger, filters, schedule and cooldown before sending its visitor action. It selects language-specific content and fills in macros using available visitor, order and task information. Blocked visitors and visitors in an active stream are excluded from these notifications.

**Popup link** can open chat, follow a custom destination or play configured video content. With **Open Chat**, **Trigger Task** can start a selected task. A popup that only opens an external destination does not automatically become a chat interaction.

To react to a click, create another event using **Popup Click** and select the source **Popup**. That rule can perform further actions. The popup's identity can follow an open-chat or task interaction into later conversation attribution.

## Configure it

1. Create a **Visitor Popup** event and set its trigger and visitor filters.
2. Choose **Style** and complete the content fields it reveals, such as **Message**, **Image** or **Iframe URL**.
3. Add translations for **Message**, **Header text** and **Footer text** where needed.
4. Choose **Popup link** and any **Trigger Task** selection.
5. Set desktop and mobile positions, appearance, timeout and click behaviour, then save and enable the event.

Use **Only trigger if chat is available** if the offer should depend on chat availability. **Sticky** keeps the offer available across subsequent pages. For an offer inside your website layout, **Use website container** exposes **Container id (optional)** and **Replace container contents** for your developer to configure.

## Limits and good to know

- Sending an offer does not prove that the visitor saw or clicked it.
- A popup's own **Cooldown** is separate from chat eligibility and task-start requirements.
- **Play Video Feed** requires suitable approved video content and does not send its offer to a visitor who already has a chat.
- **Survey** uses an existing survey definition; it does not create questions in the event editor.
- Check the result in your actual desktop and mobile chat experience, especially for images, embedded content and custom containers.

## FAQ and troubleshooting

### Why does a matching visitor see no popup?

Check **Enabled**, the trigger, visitor filters, **Dates**, cooldown and any availability restriction. Also check that the visitor is not blocked or in a stream.

### Why does clicking my popup not start a task?

Use **Open Chat**, enable **Trigger Task** and select an eligible task. A normal external link does not automatically start one.

### How do I run a different action after a click?

Create a second event with **Popup Click** in **Test for this event**, then select the original **Popup** and configure its action.

### Why does the popup look different on mobile?

**Position (Mobile)** is separate from **Position (Desktop/Tablet)**. The selected style and your visitor chat experience also affect presentation.
