Visitor location
Approximate visitor location helps you understand geographic context and select visitors near your store.
What it is
INSIDE can show approximate geographic context for a website visitor, including country, region, city and postcode where available. It also uses geographic context to distinguish local and international visitors and support nearby-store selection. The information depends on the network location data supplied to tracking.
Who uses it and why
- Operators use location as context when helping a visitor.
- Supervisors compare local and international activity.
- Administrators with the Settings role agree which countries count as local for the website.
- Developers check that tracking receives the expected geographic context.
Where to find it
Open a visitor's Summary to view available location details. The floor can show a suitcase indicator for international visitors. In mobile Search, Around My Store narrows online visitors using closest-operator selection.
Local-country controls are at Settings › Floor › Floor Settings. The Settings role allows editing these choices, and the Manager role is needed to save shared floor settings. View Only restrictions prevent editing. Powerfront manages Settings › General Settings › Admin, including Disable locations.
How it works
INSIDE obtains the request IP address and uses supplied geographic information to populate the visitor's location. Available details can include country, continent, region, city, postcode and coordinates.
The website's country and additional local-country choices determine international classification. The UK country-code variants are treated consistently for this comparison.
When the visitor's IP address changes, INSIDE clears the cached location so subsequent tracking can refresh it. Nearby-store selection compares visitor context with configured operator or store location; it is separate from the country-based international marker.
Configure it
With the Settings and Manager roles, change and save Select Local Countries when changing your local market definition, subject to View Only restrictions. The additional list is initially unset; the website's country still contributes to classification.
The shared Enable Suitcase switch defaults to on. Ask Powerfront to change this default indicator control for you. To hide visitor location references, ask Powerfront to change Disable locations.

Limits and good to know
- Network location is approximate. It does not establish a visitor's delivery address or exact physical position.
- Missing geographic information can leave the location incomplete or unavailable.
- Missing coordinates must not be treated as a verified position.
- Browser time zone and network location are separate signals.
- Hiding location references is a display control; it should not be treated as a guarantee that no location information is processed.

FAQ and troubleshooting
Why is the visitor's location wrong?
Their network can report a different location, and geographic information may be incomplete. Confirm an address directly when the task requires one.
Why is a visitor from our region marked international?
Check the website country and Select Local Countries choices. Ask someone with the Settings and Manager roles to review the local-country choices.
Why is Around My Store returning unexpected visitors?
Check the visitor location and configured team or store coordinates. This filter uses closest-operator selection, rather than a country match alone.
Can location be hidden from operators?
Yes. Ask Powerfront to change Disable locations.
